Taipei, 7 March: Mainland China emerged as Taiwan's top trading partner in 2003 for the first time, with two-way trade across the Taiwan Strait hitting an all-time high of 46.3bn US dollars, according to government tallies released over the weekend.
Taiwan exported 35.4bn dollars-worth of products to mainland China last year, up 20 per cent from the 2002 level, while its imports from the mainland increased 37.9 per cent to 11bn US dollars, tallies compiled by the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) showed.
