Fire razes down Nairobi City Council hall.

Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) - A fierce fire early Tuesday morning razed down the Nairobi City Council Hall and destroyed its Engineering Department together with property worth 1.2 billion Kenya Shillings, in what is suspected to be an arson attack to blunt the ongoing crackdown on rent defaulters.

The inferno occurred as City officials, the Mayor Joe Aketch and the Local Government Minister Karisa Maitha were in Arusha, Tanzania for the signing of the East African Community Customs Union Protocol.

The officials were forced to rush back from ceremony to attend to urgent matter at home.
