A six-game losing streak creates tension, especially when the skidding team thinks of itself as an NBA Finals contender. Such were the fortunes of the Detroit Pistons as the trade deadline neared. Detroit was mired in a stretch in which it managed to lose at home and on the road alike, and in uptempo games just as sure as in slow-down games. Perhaps coach Larry Brown wasn't the maestro we thought he was. Perhaps Pistons boss Joe Dumars made one too many deals in the offseason. Perhaps the drafting of high-profile center Darko Milicic, instead of Carmelo Anthony, was a colossal mistake.
