A year ago, Gaborik was being hailed as the league's next great star. However, he missed the early part of the season while in a contract dispute, and it has taken time for him to get his game back. He won't reach his usual 65-point range, and his points-per-game average is half of what it was in the past two seasons.

STRENGHTS: Despite his youth, Gaborik has a mature game. He is smart and can play either wing. He is a scoring threat on every shift--he scored 30 goals in each of the past two seasons--and he also can pass and use his line-mates well, forcing the opposition to cover all options. "You have to be aware of where he is on the ice because of his skill and his speed--that's his biggest threat and asset," says one NHL defenseman. "And he plays with some good players."
