TOKYO, Mar 1 Asia Pulse - Interior goods maker and marketer Hitachi Housetec Co. has developed a new type of flooring material for the bath area that reduces the risk of slipping and is easier to clean.
Most flooring material for the bath is processed with a crosshatched grid of shallow trenches that function to direct water toward the drain so the floor dries faster.
The new flooring replaces the trenches with a grid of micron-sized protrusions. This creates a greater surface area between the floor and sole of the foot, so the floor is less slippery even when covered in soapy water.
