TAIPEI, March 1 Asia Pulse - China Airlines (CAL) - Taiwan's largest carrier - posted a record single-month high in business sales of NT$7.7 billion (US$231 million) in January, with pre-tax profit hitting around NT$500 million, a CAL executive said.
With deliveries of new passenger and cargo planes this year, CAL is expected to register an all-time record of NT$89 billion in business revenue for the whole of this year, barring any major incidents that could affect its operations, such as the outbreaks of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) last year, CAL General Manager Wei Hsing-hsiung said.
A total of seven new planes are slated to join CAL's present fleet in the coming months - three A330-300 passenger planes in June, one B747-400F cargo planes each in July and August and two B747-400 passenger planes by the end of this year.
