SEOUL, March 1 Asia Pulse - South Korea's parliament has passed its first-ever law to protect the environment of the Antarctic and promote related scientific research, officials said Friday.
The National Assembly's action is part of an international protocol for protecting the South Pole which went into effect in 1998, they said.
The law prohibits military activity, nuclear testing, exploitation of minerals and any environmental destruction in the area.
