SEOUL, March 1 Asia Pulse - SK Telecom Co. (KSE:017670), the country's largest cell phone operator, said Friday its managing director Kim Sin-bae has been promoted to chief executive officer.
Kim assumed the post on Friday and is to be formally appointed at a meeting of the board of directors on Mar. 12, the company said.
On Feb. 24, SK Telecom said SK Group chairman Son Kil-seung, its chief executive officer Pyo Moon-soo and group owner Chey Tae-won will resign from its board to allow the company to be run by professional entrepreneurs and independent board members.
Following the announcement, Chey Jae-won, vice president of SK Telecom and younger brother of the group owner, also expressed his intention to step down. Their resignations are expected to be accepted at the board meeting next month.
