SEOUL, March 1 Asia Pulse - KTF Co., the second-largest of South Korea's three mobile phone operators, said it had secured one million new subscribers so far this year, as at 4 p.m Saturday.
The mobile unit of fixed-line giant KT Corp. (KSE:030200), said that almost 300,000 new subscribers had switched over from SK Telecom, the No. 1 operator in the country, taking advantage of the nation's new number portability rule, which took effect on Jan. 1.
The other 700,000 customers are those who signed up for service using the new "010" exchange number, which is available for subscribers through any operator.
The explosive increase rate was more than double that of last year, when the target of one million new subscribers was achieved in late April.
"It's also the highest level of customer growth among the 19 countries that have adopted number portability, such as Hong Kong and Norway," KTF said.
