PAGADIAN CITY-President Macapagal-Arroyo on Friday blew her top over the slow-paced construction of the Asian Development Bank-funded Pagadian-Zamboanga road project.
The P500-million Pagadian-Zamboanga road project that ends in Zamboanga City was started during the term of President Fidel Ramos in 1992.
Its first contractor was the company owned by the husband of Sen. Tessie Aquino-Oreta.
The provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur under then Gov. Isidoro Real Jr. requested the Department of Public Works and Highways to rescind the contract because of huge slippage.
The request was granted and the project was later awarded to a consortium of local contractors.
Ms Macapagal said she was surprised that construction has yet to begin, prompting her to describe the project as "the longest road."
