DAVAO CITY-Public schoolteachers who will serve in the May 10 elections will receive bigger honoraria and additional benefits, Education Secretary Edilberto de Jesus said here on Monday.

De Jesus said the Commission on Elections agreed to grant the teachers' demand for more benefits during a recent meeting with DepEd officials.

Under the agreement, De Jesus said a teacher serving as election officer would received an honorarium of P1,000 per day, or P100 more than in 2001.

De Jesus said the poll body also agreed to set aside a contingency fund for the insurance coverage of the teachers. They would also get legal assistance in case of disputes arising from their ...
