LUCENA CITY-Leftist groups dismissed Malacanang's declaration that the Mindoro double murders had already been solved and accused President Macapagal-Arroyo of orchestrating a whitewash to absolve the military.
"GMA cannot fool Mindoro folks," Robert de Castro, Bayan Muna deputy secretary general, said over the phone as he dared government investigators to present the mastermind behind the killings of Naujan Vice Mayor Juvy Magsino and her companion Leima Fortu on Feb 13.
"It seems that GMA is now engrossed again in absolving her favorite military the fastest way she can by declaring that the case is now closed. We cannot discount that a grand scheme to whitewash the case is now rolling," Irein Cuasay, Karapatan-Southern Tagalog spokesperson, said in a phone interview.
"Macapagal-Arroyo wants a hastily investigation to be able to pursue her motive-whitewash the case and let her butchers be at large. Just like what they did in the double murders of human rights activists Eden Marcellana and Eddie Gumanoy," Cuasay said.
The Department of Justice has investigated the Marcellana and Gumanoy's double murders but no resolution has yet been made.
On Saturday, Ms Macapagal announced that police have identified a prime suspect in the killing.
