BARANGAY Ginebra stole the thunder from Alvin Patrimonio's career milestone by walloping Purefoods, 100-85, last night in the Gran Matador PBA Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.
Exploiting the absence of Lenny Cooke, Eric Menk made the shaded lane his own fortress, banging in 32 points and hauling down 15 rebounds as the Gin Kings followed up their conquest of the Shell Turbochargers in the season's PBA opener.
In the second game, Asi Taulava and Randy Holcomb combined for 57 points to power Talk 'N Text past Shell, 98-88.
The Phone Pals improved to 2-0 like the Gin Kings, while the Turbo Chargers dropped 0-2. Purefoods stood at 1-1.
"Cooke's injury was a big break for us because we're at a disadvantage as far as the import matchup is concerned," said Barangay Ginebra coach Allan Caidic, whose import, Rosell Ellis, is six inches shorter than the 6-foot-8 Cooke.
