PROPELED by a late blast of power spikes, La Salle stunned defending champion San Sebastian College, 21-19, yesterday to lead three other pairs making the April excursion to Boracay for the Nestea Beach Volley 2004 finals.
Janley Patrona and Hansei Go broke a 19-all standoff with a pair of wallops to pull the rug from under crowd favorites Arman Canilang and Jershon del Rosario of SSC on the last day of the Luzon eliminations at the Rockwell Center.
"We knew we can beat them," said both Patrona and Go. "So we just tried to minimize our mistakes and when we did, that gave us the confidence to win it.''
It was a heartbreaker of a loss for Canilang and Del Rosario who entered the match unbeaten in three games. La Salle swept all its four matches to nail the finals ticket.
Joining them in the April 14-16 Boracay showdown were Far Eastern University, College of St.Benilde and University of the Philippines.
