TACLOBAN CITY-Maj. Gen. Glenn Rabonza, commanding general of the Army's 8th Infantry Division based in Samar, described as "baseless, unfounded and ridiculous" the allegations that the military was behind the abduction of two Bayan Muna members on Feb. 21 in Baybay, Leyte.
The military "will not resort to any unlawful acts as it will not, in any way, tarnish its image as protector of the people and the State," Rabonza said in a statement yesterday.
Rabonza stressed the military "respects" Bayan Muna as a political organization, alluding to an earlier statement made by Melissa Portaleza, wife of Rolando, one of the two abducted by seven armed men in Agta Beach in Barangay Kilim Baybay last Feb. 21 around 10 a.m.
