The significance of long-term relationships comes through in any conversation with players in the reinsurance market. The continuing globalisation of the sector and the advancing use of technology does not seem to do anything to diminish the belief that a driving force behind the reinsurance buying process is that 'people do business with people they like'.
A relationship that Reinsurance magazine is most proud of is with its legal contributors. John Butler has been a columnist for the magazine since its launch in 1969. This is a truly exceptional achievement and one that has been a significant benefit to the magazine and its readership in all that time. The depth of experience and understanding that John has always brought to the complexities of the UK legal system is, I would suggest, unique within the market.
Although they do not have quite the same longevity, Peter Chaffetz and Steven Schwartz and their Clifford Chance colleagues have notched up nearly 10 years of contributions to the magazine, which is also an outstanding contribution as columnists, rarely replicated in my observation.
