The 53rd ARD International Music Competition will take place August 30 September 17, 2004, in Munich, with awards for viola, flute, harp and string quartet.

There are first, second and third prizes for viola, flute and harp worth 10,000 [euro], 7,500 [euro] and 5,000 [euro], respectively. For the string quartet category, the first prize is worth 30,000 [euro], second prize is 22,500 [euro] and third prize is 15,000 [euro]. In addition to these prizes, there will be several special prizes, including audience prizes and awards for best interpretation of the commissioned works, among others.
