Have you ever been asked, "Why should I join MTNA? What can MTNA do for me?" Then the person apologetically gives a further explanation to try to give validity to the questions, such as, "I just teach in a smaller community, and I am not interested in teaching competition winners, so I really don't have any need to belong to local or state, let alone, a national association. Besides, it simply costs too much!"

What is your answer? Sometimes, these questions surprise us, and we may or may not be prepared to give a convincing answer. We can say how rewarding it is to belong to MTNA, but often, prospective members are looking for tangible benefits. To help you, here is a list of advantages that MTNA, as a national association, offers to individual teachers, local associations, collegiate chapters and state associations.

Individual Teachers

* This year's National Conference is in the heartland of the United States--Kansas City. DON'T MISS IT! Additional workshops at the conference include Pedagogy Saturday, Professional Studio Saturday, Group Teaching Track in partnership with the National Piano Foundation and technology sessions in partnership with the International Association of Electronic Keyboard Manufacturers

* National competition programs consisting of junior to young artist performance levels, and elementary through young artist composition levels

* Music for Everyone programs--Achievement Award Program, Studio Festival and Study Awards--information packets and starter kits available to all MTNA members free of charge

* American Music Teacher magazine and the MTNA Newsletter sent to each member
