VETERAN actor Nestor de Villa, the other half of the popular Nida-Nestor acting duo of the '50s, died after suffering cardiac arrest on Saturday morning at his home in Alabang, Muntinlupa. He was 75.

De Villa, Gines Francisco Soriano in real life, died "in his sleep" at 6:43 a.m., said his son Joby Soriano.

"It was a peaceful death," he said. "We were all beside him when he died."

Soriano said that complications due to cancer, with which his father was diagnosed in April 2003, triggered the heart attack.

It was "very complicated, so we would rather not talk about it…
