The Director of Public Prosecutions Richard Butera has withdrawn charges of trafficking in pornography against The Red Pepper.

"The DPP sent a representative to court who said he has lost interest in the case," The Red Pepper Editor Richard Tusiime told The Monitor by telephone yesterday.

He and his colleagues had been to Buganda Road Court for hearing of the case before Chief Magistrate Frank Othembi.

"We knew it would come to this, it does not surprise us. The case was a conspiracy of some people who thought they were very concerned about morality," Tusiime said.
