THE honorary treasurer of St Annes Cathedral in Belfast yesterday denied advising an injured former employee to go and buy a leg brace from Boots Chemist.

William Miskimmin was giving evidence before an industrial tribunal in the case of a former cleaner who alleged she was pressurised into leaving her pounds 6,000-a-year job.

Ann Hewitt, 63, who gave evidence last month, claimed the cathedral board had thrown her out of her job like an old rag because she had taken time off work after a fall in the car park.

Mrs Hewitt, who had polio as a child, exacerbated an already serious condition when she fell in May, 2002.
