Datuk Loke Wan Tho (1915-1964)

MEDIA mogul Datuk Loke Wan Tho is best remembered for his Cathay Organisation, Cathay cinemas and film houses across Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. Then, Cathay Organisation rivalled Sir Run Run Shaw's Shaw Brothers as one of the biggest producing houses in the East.

Being the youngest son of the late Towkay Loke Yew, 19th Century British Malaya's most prolific tin-mining magnate, Wan Tho was born into a lap of luxury. When Loke Yew passed away, Wan Tho was barely three years old, but inherited a big fortune from his father's estate.
