A conference titled "Next Generation Europeans: Diversity in Action" organized jointly by the British Council and Middle East Technical University (METU) started yesterday at Izmir's Ege Palas. The main goal of the conference is to raise awareness among young professionals on issues of diversity in the construction of an integrated Europe.
Nearly 80 participants aged between 20 and 35 are attending the four-day conference. Attendees include professionals working in the legal field (judges, prosecutors, lawyers), law enforcement officers (police and gendarmerie), journalists, members of the business world, government officials working in areas related to the EU and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) working on diversity issues. The participants hail from the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, and Kosovo as well as Turkey.
Chris Brown, the director of the British Council, welcomed the young professionals before the opening speech and said, "This is a great opportunity to build some networks, listen to other people's ideas and share your ideas."
