Over the past three decades, many Americans have changed their minds about the morality of homosexuality. In 1973, 80 percent said sexual relations between two adults of the same sex were always or almost always wrong. In 2002, 58 percent gave that response. In most recent polls, between 30 and 35 percent support gay marriage, and around 60 to 65 percent are opposed. There is majority support for a Constitutional amendment stating that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, but there does not appear to be a strong demand for its passage.
