Once again, it's that time of year when our thoughts begin to focus on planning the season's garden and herb patches. For most homesteaders (whether country or city dweller) not only the planning, but the entire gardening process (from start to finish) requires labor and involvement from the entire clan. So why not give it all an exciting new twist this year by planning and planting a tiny kitchen garden (or even a series of them) designed around your favorite types of cuisine? Pattern your choice of kitchen garden around the ages and preferences of your family members. Save some real time and indulge your family's food cravings with dishes prepared from ingredients just outside your kitchen door. Easy to create a kitchen garden? You betcha! Easy to care for? Yes, again. While the kitchen garden concept may engage some advance menu-planning, some calculation with regard to how many per meal servings would be required, and the number of times you might want to serve a certain dish over the season (or per year), it's a fun project.

In fact, if you're looking for a connection with your kids, no matter their age, this kitchen garden concept is a wonderful way to communicate and share ideals with them in a natural way.

What's a kitchen garden?

At least for this interpretation, liken a kitchen garden to a special area at your local grocery market set aside for just one particular type of cooking such as nouveau cuisine, German, Greek, Italian, or even lo-carb.
