Court cites immunity in traffic accident case

The Tokyo Summary Court has sent the case of a Japanese employee at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Tokyo, accused of causing a traffic accident and indicted by prosecutors, to the Tokyo District Court, contending that such summary court proceedings might violate the Vienna Treaty that gives diplomatic immunity to embassy employees, The Yomiuri Shimbun learned Wednesday.

It is unusual for a summary court to reject summary procedures related to the treaty, sources said.
