SIPA sets up branch in Chiang Mai.

The Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA) opened its first branch in Chiang Mai last week with a mission to promote and strengthen the software industry in the North.

However, some local software houses have expressed concern that if newcomers from Bangkok arrive as a result, they may face stiff competition.

ICT Minister Dr Surapong Suebwonglee said the government will provide a 420 million baht budget for the new branch's operation, to develop a skilled workforce and to promote the use of ICT among local businesses.
