US coffee chain Starbucks sues Shanghai Xingbake for trademark infringement.

BEIJING (AFX-ASIA) - US coffee house chain Starbucks Corp has filed suit against Shanghai Xingbake Coffee Shop Ltd, accusing the Chinese firm of trademark infringement, the China Daily reported.

Starbucks has filed suit against Xingbake, which uses in its name the same three Chinese characters as the US firm, in the Shanghai No 2 Intermediate People's Court, the newspaper said.

While neither company has registered the Chinese name Xingbake, the name has become accepted as the translation for Starbucks, which has 109 outlets in Taiwan and almost 100 stores in China, the paper said. Starbucks said it launched …
