The US Department of Defense is reported to be interested in sensor-guided and uranium-free ammunition from Diehl, the German defence technology company, and Mauser Oerlikon, the ammunition subsidiary of German defence technology company Rheinmetall DeTec. Diehl perceives the necessity to increase exports owing to reduced demand from the German military. It perceives opportunities for the sensor-guided artillery ammunition Smart 155, which was developed in collaboration with Rheinmetall.
