The new season was almost with us before Rovers decided to hit the headlines big style.
Aussie coach Steve Linnane and the Craven Park board had been going about their business preparing for a big bid for Super League this coming season.
A press conference had seen the arrival in East Hull of Tongan prop Frank Watene from Dewsbury, Dale Holdstock, son of Rovers favourite Roy from Leigh, National League Two young player of the year Phil Hasty from Hunslet and Marvin Golden from Super League side Widnes.
On the down side Latham Tawhai announced he could not turn down the chance of a player/coaching role at Hunslet.
But then came Linnane's bombshell.
