A parliamentary committee yesterday cleared the way for the House to have the final say on the draft constitution.

The move drastically erodes the mandate of the National Constitutional Conference at the Bomas of Kenya.

With the stroke of a pen, the Parliamentary Select Committee resolved to have the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission Act amended to allow the House to take charge of the final document.

But review commission boss Yash Pal Ghai warned MPs against "playing around with the constitution".
