Elan Corp plc and Biogen Idec announced that an Investigational New Drug Application for Antegren (natalizumab) for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis has been filed with the US Food and Drug Administration. The commencement of a Phase II clinical trial is on track to begin in 1H 2004. Natalizumab is of interest in moderate-to-severe rheumatoid arthritis because of its novel mechanism of action. The rheumatoid arthritis study will be a Phase II, multi-centre, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of the efficacy, safety and tolerability of intravenous natalizumab (300 mg) in patients with moderate-to-severe …
