Troops have killed two Kurdish guerrillas in a clash in southeastern Turkey, the governor's office said Thursday.

The clash occurred Wednesday when the rebels opened fire on an army patrol near the city of Sirnak, a statement said.

The guerrillas, fighting for autonomy in the southeast, declared a unilateral cease-fire on Oct. 1 in the hopes of dialogue with Turkey, but had said they would defend themselves too.

Turkey rules out negotiations with the rebels because it considers them terrorists and Ankara has long been pressing the United States to crack down on rebel bases in northern…
