Uncork the champagne and hang out the bunting. Air freight tonnages are taxiing for take-off in 2004, heralding a sustained return to global growth rates last enjoyed at the fag end of the dotcom 1990s, writes Roger Hailey.

The harbinger of this good news is no aircraft manufacturer seeking billion-dollar orders, but Lufthansa Cargo in its latest market survey, Planet Trends ' Forecasts.

The projected 5.9% increase for international air cargo tonnages this year is based on the 'continuing strong expansion' of the Asian market and a 'gradual economic recovery' in North America.
