SEOUL, Feb 2 Asia Pulse - South Korea's National Statistical Office said Friday it is investigating a possible leak of its monthly industrial activity report a day ahead of its scheduled release.
The office, which officially requests a media blackout on the data until a specific date and time, confirmed that key numbers related to December's industrial output circulated in the stock market Thursday evening, but was unsure if they came from its report. The information was cleared for publication Friday morning before a news briefing was held at the Gwacheon Government Complex.
Because of the sensitive nature of the data, the statistical authority, or NSO, goes to great lengths to limit access, with officials saying only the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae and the finance ministry are given a day's advance notice.
