SEOUL, Feb 2 Asia Pulse - Consumer prices in South Korea rose in January largely on sharp increases in the prices of agricultural and seafood products, the Ministry of Finance and Economy said today.
Overall, commodity prices in January were up 0.6 per cent from the previous month and up 3.4 per cent from the year before, according to government statistics.
The core consumer price index (CPI), which measures the price level of basic necessities usually unaffected by economic conditions, rose 0.9 per cent from December and 4.3 per cent from the same period the previous year, the statistics showed.
The core CPI is often regarded as an indicator of the level of price increase felt by consumers.
