SEOUL, Feb 2 Asia Pulse - Pantech Co. (KSE:25930), South Korea's third-largest handset maker with its sister company Pantech & Curitel Communications Inc., said it went into the red last year because of price competition with Chinese rivals and weak demand in the wake of the SARS outbreak.
For all of 2003, the Seoul-based company posted a net loss of 18.3 billion won (US$15.6 million), while sales rose 13 percent from the previous year to 615.3 billion won, Pantech said in a regulatory filing.
