SEOUL, Feb 2 Asia Pulse - The South Korean government unveiled Friday a four-year plan to create 10,000 jobs in the technology sector by requiring state-run corporations to hire more college engineering graduates.
The plan also calls for government-affiliated research institutes and other state companies to be required to employ new technology workers in excess of their average recruitment, the Ministry of Science and Technology said.
Announcing the ministry's blueprint in a special cabinet meeting with President Roh Moo-hyun, Science and Technology Minister Oh Myung said the ministry will launch a nationwide campaign to increase people's awareness of science and technology.
Oh, who was appointed last month as part of a minor cabinet reshuffle, said the ministry will put an emphasis on persuading more high school graduates to enter science and engineering colleges.
