Dr Stephen Vickers, the chief executive of NEBOSH, obtained the highest individual mark (68 out of 70) of all those participating in the BBC's recent Test the Nation Quiz. The event attracted 120,000 entries from all over the UK.

The fourth annual European Behavioural Safety Users Conference in Manchester saw the inaugural presentation of the Allan Pooie Trophy for outstanding achievement. Canadian Natural Resources, which was represented by Scott Russell and Karen Shearer, was awarded the trophy for a presentation described by a member of the conference audience as "full of common sense, ownership and passion".
