As the availability of technology continues to grow in this industry, the collection part of the process becomes relatively minor in the face of the myriad of alternatives that exist from a technology perspective. This is particularly true when you are outsourcing and there are some questions to be posed. Firstly, at a technology level what should a credit manager be looking for to minimize risk and maximize return through outsourcing? Secondly, do opportunities exist to bring some of this technology to the internal process?
What should you expect?
As a credit manager you trust your data and your organizations' reputation to a third party. You should take this as an opportunity to understand the environment in which this data will be managed.
Some of the questions that you need to ask include:
* What does your collection agency's server room look like?
* Is the technology a serious part of the agency or is it a "necessary evil"?
* How is your agency leveraging off its technology to improve its service to you?
