THE SUDDEN shift in the venue from the Mountain View course to the two other adjacent layouts has pushed the Mimosa Golf and Country Club racing against time to host the 88th staging of the Philippine Open golf championship staking $150,000 (about P8.4 million) on Feb. 26-29.
There's also the influx of Korean tourists to worry about.
Benny Gopez, secretary-general of the National Golf Association of the Philippines, bared during a press conference yesterday at Holiday Inn-Mimosa that the decision for the last-minute change was made after his committee surveyed the Mountain View and concluded that it won't be ready for the Open.
"The course looks ugly and we felt that the two other nines (Acacia and Lake View) will fit better into our requirements," said Gopez.
With a par of 70, the composite layout would become one of the shortest courses to host the Open next to the Camp John Hay course.
