(From Philippine Daily Inquirer)
NAGA CITY-Fernando Poe Jr. on Friday bared his 40-year experience in show business in response to critics questioning his credentials to run the country.
Poe told a crowd of 5,000 cheering fans and supporters at the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) Gym on Friday that: "Karanasan ko... My forty years bilang isang artista, kung saan-saan po ako nakarating-sa gubat, bundok at dagat (My experience. My 40 years as a movie actor, I have gone everywhere-the forest, mountain and sea)."
He presented his show business experience in a nutshell when he said "Wala daw akong experience (They say I have no experience)."
"Ginampanan ko ang mga papel bilang Muslim, military officer, pulis, jeepney driver, taxi driver, kutsero. At nang minsan ginampanan ko po ang pari (I have played the roles of a Muslim, military officer, policeman, jeepney driver, taxi driver, coach. And once, I have acted the role of a priest)," Poe added.
He said his performance in these roles enabled him to understand how the people feel and suffer. He ended his short speech, drowned in cheers, by saying that he is not indebted to anyone and that he will restore confidence in the government once elected. He waved at the excited crowd who were waving FPJPM white-and-blue flaglets inside the jampacked gymnasium.
Poe also revealed that he had shot a film in Pili town when he was just 22 years old with the title "Isa Laban sa Lahat" and said he has also friends in this city and Pili and Guinobatan, Albay.
