(From Philippine Daily Inquirer)
ZAMBOANGA CITY-Three US military officials arrived here yesterday morning to review their mission in Mindanao and enhance the country's existing bilateral security assistance agreement with the United States, according to a Southern Command official.
Lt. Col. Renoir Pascua, Southern Command spokesperson, said the US team was led by Brig. Gen. John Allen, the principal director of the Asia Pacific Affairs. He was accompanied by Lt. Col. Charles Comer and Major Don Bridgers, both of the United States Army.
Allen is also the US' assistant secretary of defense for the Philippine desk.
They were also joined by American trainers from the Joint Operation Special Task Force Philippines (JOSTFP), Maj. John Deedrick and Navy Commander Tom Gerstner.
Maj. Robert Garza, the liaison officer of the JOSTFP, told the Inquirer that Allen's visit was more "informational" than anything.
