CLARK SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE-Communist rebels ask politicians to pay permit-to-campaign fees (PTCs) while military and police officials are discouraging them to ignore these demands.
But this situation, according to Nueva Ecija Gov. Tomas Joson III, puts politicians in a bind.
"If you don't show you're ready to fight, they (communist rebels) bully you. I know that politicians don't want to pay (PTCs) but they are saying 'What can we do? We are at the mercy of these people who roam around the town and the barangays fully armed. We don't have security and no persons to depend on.' This is the dilemma of this program (resisting the demands for PTC)," Joson, chair of the regional peace and order council, told the Inquirer on Tuesday.
