TACLOBAN CITY-Passengers at the port in Barangay Looc, Allen, Northern Samar, would no longer have to worry about their safety or where to find immediate help in case of emergency or whenever they are stranded at the Allen port.
An assistance center, called Angkas (Alliance of Networks for Assistance to Strandees) was set up in the port area on Jan. 6 to ensure that the needs of stranded passengers are taken care of.
Under the project, the port authorities will also take care of other travelers needing immediate or emergency aid, not only in times of typhoons but during ordinary days as well.
The project, initiated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Eastern Visayas led by its director, Jim Rebustillo, is in partnership with the local government led by Mayor Laureana Suan, the Balwharteco (a private firm operating a port) and the operators of ferry boats and buses plying the Allen-Matnog route in Sorsogon province (Bicol area) route.
