THE CADENA de Amor goes by countless other names in various places-Queen's Wreath, Coral Vine, Mexican Creeper and Love Vine, among others.

On Thursday, the Metro Manila Council added a new distinction to this prolific plant when the members declared it as the official flower of Metro Manila.

Bayani Fernando, chair of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, said the council adopted the Cadena de Amor to symbolize "the love that binds Metro Manilans."

With its tendrils and sprays of bright pink flowers, Cadena de Amor can spread vigorously on fences and other plants like "mantles of hope and joy," …
