AFTER TAKING the initial punches, opposition presidential candidate Fernando Poe Jr. finally fought back against his detractors in Malacanang, by citing particularly the failure of the government to provide political stability to the country.
Addressing the mass oath-taking rites of the Puwersa ng Masa at the Cuneta Astrodome, the presidential standard-bearer of the Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP) unleashed scathing remarks against President Macapagal-Arroyo.
"First of all, we must bring back the trust and confidence in our government. We must have a leadership that will apply the rule of law and total transparency," said Poe, eliciting a loud uproar from an audience of about 7,000 supporters and local opposition candidates.
In his two-minute speech, Poe did not mince words in accusing the Macapagal administration of failing miserably to rally the whole nation behind the government.
