COTABATO CITY-The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is investigating the alleged involvement of some of its officials in illegal logging in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat.
In a press statement, Jim Sampulna, DENR director for Central Mindanao, said there was an ongoing "administrative proceedings to warrant the filing of charges against the perpetrators for violation of PD 705," the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines. Sampulna, however, withheld the identities of the officials pending the filing of formal charges, based on the findings of a DENR investigating team he had dispatched on Jan. 7 to conduct the investigation.
But sources at the DENR regional office in Koronadal City said the investigation covered the jurisdiction of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources office in Sultan Kudarat and at least two district officers.
