(From Philippine Daily Inquirer)

THE MAN who commands the fear and respect of thousands of prisoners had never dreamed of taking up a career in penology.
Supt. Venancio Tesoro, head of the New Bilibid Prisons, said he had wanted to become a painter or a sculptor when he was young.
"But my parents frowned upon my career of choice, saying I could not support a family with that kind of profession," Tesoro, 49, told the Inquirer inside his office at the NBP in Muntinlupa City.
He then took up psychology at Letran College, in accordance with his parents' wishes.
"And because I was into the arts, I was also interested in human behavior and how I could depict these in my illustrations," Tesoro said.
