WATER taps in the metropolis may be drying up but the volunteer spirit overflows among some city residents.
A group of college students has found in the water crisis threatening Metro Manila and neighboring provinces an opportunity to help others.
The Mechanical Engineering Society (MES) of Manila's De La Salle University has said it will start digging deep wells in a squatter relocation site in Rodriguez, Rizal, starting this month.
The organization, which counts some 200 members, is offering its manpower and expertise as well as a mobile drilling mechanism developed by MES members for free.
But having only enough funds to buy materials to build one well, the group is appealing for donors willing to underwrite the construction of nine other wells.
